would it be likely/plausible for an animal with an inactive sex life to become depressed?

think of a house cat for example

Or a human

OP asked about animals, not humans.

>humans aren't animals

i know god created humans and animals together with his love but we're still different cuz he had us in mind lol.

so ya can cats get depressed??? :D
I guess i'm just asking more so if it's common for a cat or dog's serotonin (and other neurotransmitter) levels to drop due to lack of sex

I think for an animal to be "depressed" it would have to have emotional states, which probably requires some degree of self-awareness. Are cats self aware? Maybe dolphins.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotion_in_animals also tackles at a few points depression in animals.

About the specific scenario of depression due to lack of sex I unfortunately I didn't find anything.
