This, but backwards. You can't start with a statement, show it implies something known to be true, then say the statement you started with was true. It doesn't always work, because the operations aren't always reversible. For example:

1 = -1
1^2 = (-1)^2
1 = 1

So, 1 = -1.
That's the same logic that is used.

"A -> B, and we know B is true, so A must be true." is not valid reasoning.

"A -> B, and we know A is true, so B is true." is valid reasoning.
