Large private collections during the height of Rome; owners loaned books out of kindness and for status.
During the worst centuries of Europe’s "dark ages" monasteries would lend to each other to allow them to copy and create more books
In the early US a fat, drunken pervert named Ben Franklin made public libraries law.
In the 1820s a super rich awesome dude named Andrew Carnegie (richest man alive at the time) built free lending libraries across the US.
To this day, 2013, MOST of the free libraries in the US were originally built by Carnegie.
That nigger paid for my education. I love him.

It's commonly believed that the wild libary developed from some rudimentary sitting room, as they share much of the same phenotypes and morphology. The presence of vestigial traits shows that they are descendant from one another, while deleterious alleles were eliminated over time due to lack of use.

A lot of rich peoples' libraries are basically 'fake'......

there are decorating companies that buy up old unwanted leather-bound books and sort them by size, color and condition.

when a rich person buys a mansion (or has a new library put in) they don't want to look at a bunch of empty shelves.... so the interior decorator calls the book place up and orders books by the linear foot. they buy enough books to fill the shelves.

if you browsed the titles you might think that the rich person had very eclectic tastes--but most of the time, they haven't even opened any of the 'decorator' books at all

Obviously, when I said "poor", I didn't mean homeless people, or starving kids in Africa. I think it's better if you read non-rich instead of poor.

>What, books ain't cheap anywhere, especially if they're leather bound.
I didn't say they buy leather bound books. That would look shitty in most homes anyway. You can always buy second hand, and books at Amazon start at three fiddy.

If I had a library like OP's pic I'd fill it with a bunch of books like this. A few books with $100 in 20's scattered about. One book that once opened it lights up like a giant flashlight. (probably some new age book with the word "LIGHT" in the title) To kill a mocking bird with a small pistol inside. And one book will have a keypad inside it which unlock the secret door hidden behind one of the bookshelves.

What, do you want them to have a library full of books they've all read already and never try and explore? Having a library full of books you haven't read yet means you're never wanting for new material.
