I can't think about the James Webb space telescope for too long without getting really excited then very stressed out and needing to sit in a corner for a while.

It will be a very powerful tool for astronomy but it is not the be all and end all of astronomy equipment.

Be aware there is an awful lot of hype about it. There is a mountain of popular articles about it which are exaggerated at best.

Will it be able to image other planets that are far away?

I'm wondering this too.

It's going to be able to see exo-planets?
Can we see Pluto better?

If you mean exoplanets yes, it will have improved contrast to many instruments today. It will not resolve them in any detail, they will be points of light.
We can see exoplanets today, it will not resolve any and contrary to what some have claimed it will not see earth like planets. It may help characterise some but not direct detection.

It has worse resolution that Hubble so it won't improve images of Pluto.

Looking forward to seeing deeper into the universe.

How does a 6.5m diameter telescope have a worse resolution than a 2.4m telescope?

What the fuck.

>> No.6127995

The 2.4m telescope was made in Taiwan. The 6.5m was made in America.

It doesn't hubble has 8 x 0.64 megapixels and James Webb has 33 megapixels

of course james webb operates more in the infrared

You'll get better images of Pluto when New Horizons gets out there in 2015.
