Hey /sci/

Could someone explain how binary multiplication works please? I don't really understand it. I can convert decimal and hexadecimal to binary easily but I don't understand how the multiplication works.

Let's say I have 110.101 x 111.1

How would I go about solving that?
Thanks in advance.

>> No.6077955

you can't solve that

>> No.6077965

>>6077962
because it's not an equation

Why is that? I just pulled it out of my ass sorry.

You're gunna have to go into further detail her for me man, I am not following you at all. Is it a writing error? I want 110.101 multiplied by 111.1 in binary.

>>6077974
If that isn't possible any binary multiplication examples would be much appreciated.

Line the two numbers one on top of the other and act like you're in second grade. Multiply it just like base 10.

110.101
x_111.1
------------
etc

Binary multiplication is piss easy, because if it's a one you just repeat the other line (minding indents) and if it's a zero you just add an extra indent for the next line.

Thanks, could you please explain why what I asked was not an equation by any chance?

>> No.6078011

>>6078004
Here, I'll draw it out to the end:

110.101
x_111.1
------------
___110101
__1101010
_11010100
110101000
----------------
Now you add them, again just like in 2nd grade.

>> No.6078012

why not converting into normal numbers, then multiplying them, and converting them back to binary?

>> No.6078014

convert to decimal, multiply, convert back

"equation" comes from the root word "equate" which means you know two things are "equal"
>2+2=4
On the other hand, 2+2 is an "expression."

>>6077955
Yes you can, it's 110001.1011

your welcome for explaining it to you?

i could have left you hanging. it wasnt me who was trolling you about it, you know

this
you can't solve 2+2
you can't solve 2+2=4 either
you can solve 2+x=4

I got that sequence of 1's and 0's but how did you know the decimal point got put 4 digits in? Sorry for my dumb questions, I'm just trying to understand it.

That makes no sense.
Also no one insulted me.

How did I know the decimal point was four places in? Hint: 110101*(1/2)^3*1111*(1/2)

Also,
>decimal point
not binary point or radix point

yeah... this OP

remember, in decimal something like 19*3 is
10 times 3 + 9 times 3
in bin 11*11 would be
10 times 11 + 1 time 11
of course by 10 I mean 2 and by 11 I mean 3

lol u confus?
