opinions on the black knight satellite? its rumored to be an alien satellite or ship. some say its a heat blanket from one of the shuttle missions to construct the space station.

>what makes you think its space junk?

It's shape is completely fucked up.

No one manufactures something useful in such a fucked up shape.

You can take a collection of the pictures and have an algorithm generate a 3D representation of it.

>what makes you think its space junk?
Because it looks like a sligthly bent panel-like object that spins and have no features that suggests it's a purpose built and designed vessel of any kind.

some of our satellites, in the way they are today dont look very defined in a way to indicate what their purpose is, maybe this thing if it was alien isnt a ship. what "if" voyager eventually got stuck in some planets orbit and trillions of years later that planet developed intelligent life, what would they think of our beaten up satellite?
the black knight disappears and re appears at regular intervals and even changed its orbital direction once. from west to east to east to west.

also the orientation is really shitty.
in one of the pictures it kinda looks like the nose is straight down.
but in that series of pictures it looks like it's rotating uncontrollably.

it's still rotating, usually that's a bad sign it gets worse and worse until it starts breaking up.
this happened to some high altitude jumpers.
They started spinning faster and faster until the rotational acceleration was too much for the body.
They blacked out and fell to their death.

>>6009168
it has weird aerodynamics, you think we choose the shape of the space shuttle because it looks super cool?

>>6009176
it looks like it's just a plate.
if it was a space ship it looks like the nose is straight down, which isn't usually a good thing.
this thing has to maintain an orbital speed, but with it's orientation it looks like it's going to drag on the atmosphere, rotate to death and burn up

>rotation
I don't see how the thin near vacuum of the thermosphere could increase the rotation rate of space debris. If anything, that piece of orbital debris still has near the same angular momentum from it's 'separation event.'

>> No.6009287

>>6009211
I was talking about a high altitude jumper (at least there)

>its in polar orbit...
I'm pretty sure you or someone you listen to just pulled this fact out of their ass.
First, orbits do not just circle random longitudinal lines like the arctic circle or the tropic of cancer. If this isn't what you meant, then I'm sorry. This object would have to expend a lot of energy to stay about to stay above a latitudinal line. The exception to this is the equator. Orbits travel in a circle around the globe...I'm losing how to explain this so I'll just site examples, all meridian lines, equator, bond films they have that weird sine curve thing on the maps to tell you where the satellite is.
These are what orbits will look like (someone smarter than me check that).
> Polar orbit
> I don't think that means what you think it means
Polar orbit is when an object goes over both poles. This is equivalent to saying that the object follows a meridian (longitudinal) line around the Earth. On to the next section

If this was an alien a polar orbit would be quite boring. Sure you get a sample of all the biomes, but life I believe would be much more interesting. I would put myself in an orbit that puts me over the biggest population centers
> there is no air
what possessed you to think that?
there is definitely some air over the poles, you'll agree with that right?
I've seen pictures of people standing on the poles breathing fine.
Why would there be no air over the poles?
The only reason I can think of and could comment on is the air bulging at the equator because a centripetal force (I think it might actually be centrifugal in this case) is pushing the air out.
While this effect would be measurable, you could always go a little lower and find more air
> its in polar orbit... there is no air
don't make shit up.
be more discerning with your info

Ah yes "reapers"

>> No.6009301

>>6009269
I meant when it gets lower, I think.
Something like that, when it does start passing through the atmosphere will rotate faster and faster, if the aerodynamics are the way I think they are.
I didn't know it was still in the thermosphere. All I could tell was that it looked like it was in some sort of atmosphere. This kinda makes sense. If it was already in its death spin I don't think we'd have as good of pictures

Pretty tired right now, might have said some wrong things

It's clearly not in polar orbit as the Shuttle took those pictures, the Shuttle never launched to polar orbits. Secondly it's at an altitude the Shuttle can reach so there is definitely significant exosphere, air.

>what "if" voyager eventually got stuck in some planets orbit and ... later that planet developed intelligent life

They'd probably make it self-aware, capable of absorbing material and information and send it back to Earth. Due to space debris knocking off some of the letters on the satellite, they will think it's name is V'ger.
