Anyone here know anything about biostatistics? Was recommended to me by my adviser some time a while back and it seems pretty cool. I'm just a math major with an interest in science.

it means you need to double major with biology

well perhaps biostatistics isn't the same as bioinformatics, but there's this:
http://pipeline.corante.com/archives/2013/01/30/farewell_to_bioinformatics.php
(follow the link w/in the above page to the full rant)

last time I saw the above posted here some other anon replied to the effect of 'that rant isn't representative' - so take it with a grain of salt (and that was also the position taken by Lowe when he posted it at in-the-pipeline)

This guy is retarded and has no idea what he's talking about. Biostats is just math in a biological setting and so you could apply to grad school as long as you taken Calcs 1-3, linear algebra, a year of prob/stats. Real analysis as well for a PhD.

What is your question faggot? You can clearly see from the word that it is statistics applied to biology.

Bioinformatics is more CS and Biostats is more stats.

Health of a job market, Masters vs PhD., security for the future, anyone who works in it and has experience in the field.

>> No.5912853

Sure why not. Can't get a job with just a math major anyways.

Unfamiliar with the field. New one I'm guessing.
