>hurr durr let's argue about convention differences

pink = short scale (each word is 10^3 times the previous)
blue = long scale (each word is 10^6 times the previous)
purple = both are used
yellow = various other bullshit

Which colors are your referring to as "blue" and "purple"? I'm not sure if your blue is maybe my purple.

>> No.5907755

>>5907745
Everyone is perceiving blue and purple exactly the same way. There can never be any confusion. Neuroscience has proved this. There are no qualia.

Love how they actually included Antarctica in it. Also Greenland both uses the long scale (Danish) and some weird shit (Greenlandic).

The long scale definitely makes more sense, and is easier to calculate with though.
1 million = 10^6
1 bi-million = 1 billion = 10^6*10^6 = 10^12
1 tri-million = 1 trillion = 10^6*10^6*10^6 = 10^18

And so forth. Makes it easier to convert between the spoken word and the number, which becomes important when reaching higher numbers (for example very few people remember how many zeroes there are in a octillion.)
Put in -ard between them to have more spoken numbers. Simple and rational.

The short system kind of uses the same words, but doesn't understand the logic. Thus a word like a sextillion become rather unfounded.

'This is only partly true. People can perceive things differently to the extent that their perceptions of that thing we developed during their lifetime.

not to mention the terms for 10^9 is milliard, for 10^15 is billiard and 10^21 is trilliard, so you can't fuck up as the numbers grow

>> No.5907795

>>5907779
Impossible. There are no differences in perception. Colors are objectively defined by wave lengths.

>> No.5907798

>>5907795
Some people are colourblind, so they can't perceive all the different wavelengths. So there are at least some differences.

purple doesn't have a wavelength. that's violet

The brain may be directly stimulated to produce the other colors.

>categorizing arbitrary limits for electromagnetic waves

you keep saying this... i don't think you know what it means

you could say "plants get energy through photosynthesis" and it doesn't give you a better idea of what exactly is going on. it's over simplified.

Not in a world with SI prefixes, which are 10^3 apart.
