So I have one semester left in school. I am a bio major and comp sci minor. My plan is to go to grad school and get a masters in bioinformatics. After a few years I would be making around 75k. However people have told me about the money patent attorneys make, Upwards of 300k. I would have to spend much more money on school and go to school longer, but I would make sooo much more. My gpa is a 3.3 so I would not be able to get into any top law school. What should I do /sci/? Should I even take the LSAT?

Just do what you like. 75k is perfectly liveable.

Unless it is free or you are going to a top 15 law school forget it. The only happy lawyers I know work in the movie industry.

I'd say go ahead and take it. If you ace it, you might lean towards Law School, if you score horribly after a good study effort, you can be solidified in your decision to do Bioinformatics.

For the record, my dad is a real estate attorney who makes like 500k/year and he doesn't like his job. A lot of lawyers seem passionate about it, others seem to hate it. The market is also over-saturated with lawyers, what makes you think you'll be able to land a 300k job, even as a lawyer?

So sorry to hear that.

pick one, OP

Also, patent attorneys are generally filled with people who did a PhD and burnt out after a couple postdocs. You won't be able to compete with just a bachelor's or master's.

Also you don't have to go to law school to do patent law for biology. Just study on your own.

Job outlook for bioinformatics is one of the best in the sciences. Have fun majoring in physics or math and not getting a job, making less then me, and not getting laid. Also my physics and math classes were very easy compared to my beginning bio classes

>> No.5894681

shame you didn't major in computer science.
I just got my degree and the job I'm starting in next month pays ~100k$ a year

Your post is anecdotal.

>Have fun majoring physics or math and not getting a job

You assumed I study math and physics, anyways have you heard of quantitative analysts? They are the guys who make 300k starting + bonuses.

Why do you think people say

>PhD in Math
>300k starting

>making less then me

You'll probably end up working in a lab making much less then you really think.
Have you even looked up statistics about salaries? STEM majors (STEM majors who studied hard science) are the highest earners.

>not getting laid

Because university lasts forever right?

Just like high school did apparently.

>my physics and math classes were very easy compared to my beginning bio classes

Yep of course they were easy, you're a fucking bio major.

Nice try faggot. 100k average. You'll have to work a while to get there
>STEM majors
Bioinformatics is STEM. Biology is STEM. Comp sci is STEM.

>Because university lasts forever right?

You didn't get laid in HS and now you are not in college. And you think its going to get easier?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You get bonuses when you work in the financial industry and bonuses can be much higher then your salary.

Did you know psychology is considered STEM too? I typed STEM majors who studied hard science.

I never said anything relating to how difficult it is to get laid.

It's just a big dick measuring contest to you isn't it?

Enough of the trolling. "Bio is not a hard science" is just a meme. Nobody is actually retarded enough believe that.

Those websites don't include bonuses though. You can move up quickly in the financial industry too. Not all financial firms are the same, hedge fund quant analysts probably get paid more then other quant analysts.

>Implying you need a PhD in math to do quant analysis.

>Implying any mathematically rigorous major can't get a job in software

There are engineers, mathematicians and physicists working in quantitative finance who only have undergrads.

The most you would have to do is get a masters degree if you didn't get a job with an undergrad. No need to do a PhD.

>move up in skill to $135k-150k skill level over 7 years

Same shit with quants except some quants make millions and not just 150k when they've been doing the shit for over 7 years.

Finance is the shit the longer you stay in it. You make good money to begin with - Engineering money and then you can climb the ladder.
