What if the Moon was an habitable planet in a binary arrangement with the Earth?

How would space exploration be if we had a moon that was habitable?

we would nuke them

what if earth was one of a number of habitable moons orbiting a Jupiter sized planet at the same distance from the sun as the earth is?

What if Earth was a habitable planet orbiting in a Lagrange point to a Jupiter like planet and it's moon at the same distance from the Sun that Earth is?

I actually expected a serious discussion here.

To bad /sci/ is filled with edgy kids and not enlighten scientists.

I think we would have different lifeforms on the New Moon

Space exploration would be advanced due to the need to travel to the moon and explore

Probably infectious diseases for which we have no immunity. Or vice versa.

So we can imply that medicine will be advanced?

No doubt that if the Moon held life, pretty much everything would change, but if either the Moon or the Earth held intelligent life that is capable of harvesting resources, then they are going to take from the Earth/Moon. Think Avatar

Assuming we did find an primitive alien people living on top of valuable resources, do you think the economic force of wanting to extract would win over political/moral force of not wanting to interfere with an alien species?

Well this 'Moon' would have to be a size similar to Earth, with a functioning metalic molten core otherwise the radiation from the sun will eradicate all live within days. If the moon was similar size to Earth, it is practically impossible for it to not have collided with Earth billions of years ago.

Or explain a method how 2 earth sized planets could have created a stable orbit (remember there is the sun so this 3 body problem is complicated), or explain how the moon could be smaller and hold an atmosphere and magnetic field to protect against radiation.

It would be possible.

we would rape them before the debate about whether or not we should rape them had started.

I've actually thought about this before, and I figure we'd obviously be putting alot more funding into space travel r&d, considering there would be an entirely new source of agriculture and minerals. But I also wondered how we would react to an intelligent species on the moon, even if it was just in the proto-stage of civilization.
