If you're not gonna write your answers in the simplest way possible you might as well write the initial problem as an answer.

you should argue with your teacher that 0.9999.. =1.
here is the prove:
0.99999.. = 0.333... x3
0.333.. = 1/3
therefore 0.9999..= 1/3 x3 , which = 1
therefore 0.9999... = 1

Does your teacher seriously not mark you by critiquing your thought process and work flow, rather opting for the lazy "only check the final answer" bullshit?

Perhaps apologise for making a stupid mistake and that the teacher recheck.

>More proofy versions for maths people

All the math people get shafted in calc courses. The rigorous proof based calculus you're talking is covered in a separate course called Analysis. Engineers and science people are notorious for holding back math people.

most us schools offer honors versions of basic math class. i went to a quarter school and due to time conflict i wound up taking the honors version of vector calculus using the marsden book.

They do, it's called analysis. The only things they offer separate of are stuff like diff eq, but it's really more or less the same content except the engineer's version has a mixing problem they have to cover. If you're doing shit like "treating dy and dx like separate variables" then the math based calc course you're taking isn't any more math based than the engineers course.
