So im thinking of going into engineering, but I don't know which one to chose. These are my choices:
EE
ChemE
Engineering physics
MechE(not sure about this one)

Which one will bring me more jobs and is less boring. I prefer math to memorization. I'm also thinking about going into geology if I find engineering too boring and I want more money.

>> No.5826116

Why are you not sure about MechE?

>> No.5826119

>>5826116
I hear bad thing about it, like its saturated and I will be a code monkey forever.

>>5826119
That might be the case in your area. I would do some research on this before deciding on your options. I personally never heard about MechEs being a saturated field, mostly because it's the broadest engineering field and also very needed. A good example would be a company like Boeing which has an absurd ratio of MechEs to Aerospace Engineers, like 300 to 1.

If you're looking into Engineering Physics, make sure you really don't want to do MechE instead. That's what happened to me, since I underestimated the range of the field and only understood it two years later.

(not that guy) but employers will look at you as 'not a real engineer'

in good times you can get away with Eng. Phys. or straight up physics and still get a a job, but in bad times (esp. under protracted poor employment prospects generally) you can't.
It's an employer's market and they want "engineers" proper and esp. those who have specifically studied in an area that meets current project demands.

/sci/ has a huge hard-on for EE and ChemE but I've always found MechE more interesting. It also helps that where I live it has the highest average salary and highest ceiling, with one of the highest demands. Also, you can choose what you want to work with, from designing machines to working with HVAC to automation and control systems to biomedical equipment, etc.

I don't know, OP, but after you do MechE you'll find every other Engineering field narrower.

Of course, that's not inherently bad, but if you are not exactly sure of what you want, that's a huge pro towards MechE.

I only have these options: EPhysics, Civil, Mech, Renewable Energy Engineering (I dunno about this one), and ChemE.

I'm also going into Computer Eng, my only qualm is that I want to pick up a bit of experience before I get into the real classes on my major. I'm currently 3-4 classes from starting the real classes, I have to finish Calculus, plan on taking physics,Calc 2, and Chemistry. Then I transfer to a University to complete my Bach. I was thinking about learning Python on the side, so I don't jump in blind. I found a nice website with free classes on Udacity.com. Is this a good idea? This isn't just directed at you per say. But nice to see other people going with CE

im almost done with my CE degree (bach)

and yes its good to know a programming language ahead of time, this is usually the first barrier where lots of people drops out . some people just cant into programming it seems. (or at least not as fast as the uni expect)

most engineers end up up as programmers in their specific field, like matlab and FEM, mechanical engineers don't build bridges that's civil and mechanical engineers are too general they cant do anything specified, there as useless as general engineers.

>> No.5827040

when i hear code monkey i think of uneducated programmers that just implement easy code that is part of a bigger project and is designed by others.

just mindless programming like an assistant

like the programmers version of lab rat
