Probably designing cars, factory equipment, etc. But you personally will not get those jobs. You'll end up fixing cars.

If you went to a good college and did internships, you could be making 100k+ starting.

I'm confused... I thought that a mechanical engineer built shit? Who does that?

What would be a good college? UMASS?

funny. let me rephrase the question.
money isn't as important.
what's the most promising career choice for someone with a background in mechanical and metallurgical engineering?

>> No.5811785

>>5811697
Forensic structural engineer, there is often more money figuring out how stuff breaks

Don't go into engineering for the money.

Not OP, but an Aerospace engineering student; for the record, I'm fascinated with the field and have been since I was a child, so its not for money. But what field would you say to go into for the money? Telling someone to not get into engineering for money is like telling them to get into English for money I'd say.

Mechanical Engineers design machinery, mostly. Structural and CIvil engineers deal with larger things.

To the OP, MechE is the broadest engineering field. Without specializing in one field, you can't go too deep into it with only an undergrad degree.

actually, is like telling someone NOT to get into English because of the money/job market

Sales Engineer. No joke, selling HVAC equipment and large industrial machines (pumps, heat exchangers, turbines, etc) nets some guys above 200k a year (off of commission).
There is huge potential for this if you can actually talk to people and are confident in yourself. Other than that, working for the big petroleum companies (Exxon, Chevron) will get you around 100k starting.
