/sci/ what does it take to preserve DNA, would a toenail clipping be enough or do you have to flash freeze some blood etc and keep it in storage?

My goal is to make a few million dollars and by the time I'm 80 or 90 have some scientists in China clone me a new body with the DNA from when I was 20 years old. The only thing I'd have to worry about aging at that point would be my brain and there should be plenty of drugs for Alzheimer/dementia out by then.

>>5778273
Either would work, but your DNA itself does not age, only your body does. You could take DNA from your 90 year old self and use that for a clone; you would not need the DNA from your younger self. It would still be the same.

Making a clone of yourself is not a viable method for immortality. The clone would be a separate person with it's own unique soul. It would not be possible to implant you into the younger body, and it would be unethical to try, as the host would be murdered in the process.

That's why I'm doing it in China, silly. I'm not sure if a few million will even be enough to do this though, I hope I can one day start an extremely successful business in order to be guaranteed enough money for this procedure.

i didn't read all the words in these posts, but i think it's safe to assume we're scooping out brains and doing the old switcharoo?
but you know the chinese, they'll probably just eat the old body and young brain in a soup

Why not? I'm sure science would have advanced enough in 60-70 years to perform a procedure like this if I had enough money.

Also, are you sure the DNA of my 90 year old self would be just as good, I thought the reason why that cloned sheep died so young was because it received the DNA of an already aged sheep with shortened telomeres.

I think that is what he was implying, yes.
But it would be murdering the clone of yourself just so you can hijack their body.

How would you not?
It would be very obvious if a 90 year old man suddenly hijacked the body of a 20 year old.

The brain is extremely complex and intricate, you can not simply detach it like a USB cable and just stick it into any body you like; it is just not that simple.
it can not be done.

For each life, there must also be death.
You should accept it, and you should not seek immortality.

Russians managed to keep a dog head alive for a few minutes and that was decades ago. I think the only major problem would be reattaching my spinal cord which hopefully they can fix with stemcells.

I'll just get plastic surgery for my face and steal the identity of someone young.

I hate that experiment.

They did not swap its brain with anything, they just kept its blood oxygenated, which kept the dog alive.
This is completely different to swapping brains into different bodies.

>I think the only major problem would be reattaching my spinal cord
A pretty big problem, yes.

Your brain would still be 90. You'd have more than Alzheimer's to worry about - your brain cells would just stop dividing. You'd get diseases never before seen.
Also, a few million would never do it. This is really high tech stuff - you'd have to be funding most of it yourself over time.

i don't know how to frame it scientifically, it's just something interesting to think about.

for all intents and purposes it would be the same thing, but if you were cloned then you'd have an identical person running around that wasn't actually you, right?

your clone could kill you but you'd still be alive...
