I don't know if this is exactly /sci/ material, buuut...

I was wondering how you guys would recommend studying for the MCAT?

I pulled a 30 last year, I'm looking to get a 33-35 for a solid shot at an interview... quite a leap, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes.

Right now I'm split between using the Kaplan books (which I used last year) or trying out Examkrackers... or maybe even doing both. Does /sci/ have any recommendations?

Kaplan is quite good. I bought their set. I have yet to take the exam, but I'm making good progress. Good luck!

maybe better off asking here, if you haven't done so already:

for the love of fuck, don't retake a 30. don't be one of those striver ERHMAHGERD TOP 20 MED SCHOOL OR BUST jerkoffs.

if you're stupid enough to try this, good fucking luck. the 2013 MCAT is harder than the 2012 MCAT.

Wow. Thats ALOT of text for an aptitude test.

Bio, chem AND physics?

Why would a postgraduate doctor need all this when most undergrad medicine courses only require chemistry?

my undergrad GPA is not quite what one would consider... strong...

because the mcat is a test designed by complete fucking retards.

then re-take classes and apply DO. statistically speaking, you (and me, and 99% of all other pre-meds and medical students) aren't smart enough to match into plastic surgery, dermatology, vascular surgery, etc. the issue of a DO degree restricting your ability to specialize in an ultra-competitive field is therefore moot.

they're changing the test in 2015. Its going to include psychology.

practice tests are wastes of time. i averaged a 31 over seven AAMC full length practice tests. the real MCAT was absolutely NOTHING like them. unless you work in a bio lab or are hardcore into bio journal club, you're going to get your asshole prolapsed by the 2013 MCAT's biology section.

also get your hands on a pdf of the princeton reviews verbal hyperlearning book with all the practice passages. gold for practicing that shit.

wtf are you talking about. take the real 2013 mcat, it's not like the aamc practice tests or the material in the tpr hyperlearning science workbook. they pull passages directly from research journals, massage them to be more standardized testing appropriate, and ask you a bunch of questions. you need you read the passage, understand the universally shitty graphs and diagrams, filter out all of the irrelevant information, and answer the passages. trust me, the 2013 MCAT is fucking NOTHING like the practice material. it's way fucking harder.

Still, its on a bell curve. Universities still HAVE to admit some of you loonies in to fill their quota for the year.

Its not like as if its based on absolute score.

uhm actually a lot of the mcat is pretty easy dude. theres really only a few questions that are super fucking hard to set the upper end of the curve.

stop playing it up lol its a multiple choice test they give you the answer.

and ive seen practice material that is way harder than actualy mcat questions

>>5755479
no they don't. the MCAT is graded by the AAMC on a bell curve, yes. a score of ~25 has been 50th percentile for as long as the test has been around. however, the average MCAT scores for applicants and (more importantly) matriculants has been steadily increasing over the past 10 years. https://www.aamc.org/download/321494/data/2012factstable17.pdf

lol whatever you say man. all i know is that i never had much trouble on the practice material, and the real MCAT that I took on april 27th fucking raped me a new asshole.

well they are adding biochem

this is the consensus amongst most of my peers. one of my buddies was getting straight 34's on his practice exams, which he did 4 of, and when he took the actual test he ended up getting a 29.

the dude cried.
