Real scientists don't care about being "happy". Happy is nothing more than an emotional state, too shallow a life goal for scientists tastes. No, real scientists only care about discovering truth in nature.

So are scientists happy? Probably. Most of the scientists I know seem pretty happy. Are they "enlightened"? Not really sure, I guess that depends on how you define enlightened. In general I suppose they are more informed about the true nature of the universe, but lack the spiritual conviction of religious folk. But the true scientist finds these adjectives arbitrary and irrelevant. The drive to know more is all that matters.
