as an engineering science in my first year i plan on doing electrical engineering. Will i ever actually USE chemistry at all?

Depends on what you want to do with EE. Designing batteries? Yes, you'll need it. Designing power systems for buildings? probably not.

It's more of a "weed them out" 1st year course set but knowing bits of it might be useful if/when you take Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Solid State Physics.
