There is a point where it's too late.

Take extra classes during the summer and on weekends. Man the fuck up.

>> No.5701471

apply for academic renewal

If you wanted a reputation, the time to man up has passed.

Maybe its time to get tested for ADD, or another psychological workup.

Beyond that, there is no sin in having a 2.5 GPA. You get a Diploma like everyone else, though you have to ACE the GREs and suck some serious ass to get into a decent Grad School.

All is never lost.

>> No.5701478

You're probably out of the running for the absolute top tier spots in grad school or whatever, but just keep getting a's and have good relationships with your teachers your 3rd and 4th years and you can still do pretty great.

I'll have to dropout then wait 5 years for that. Not really an option.

>>5701475

I'm an undergrad.

>>5701478

I'm on good terms with some of my professors.
Even with this I have a snowball's chance in hell of getting into any grad school.

This was me two semesters ago.

With a smattering of As, Bs, and a C here and there, I'm almost at a 3.0 now. It's just a matter of time.

One thing to keep in mind - anything less than As in high credit classes won't do you any favors. On the same note, As in low credit classes won't do much either. Play around with GPA calculators to see why this is so.

Academic Renewal was only like 2 or 3 years at my school, worth looking into in detail.

Retaking classes over the summer helps a lot too

i thought most grad schools only take the last 2 years of fulltime undergrad into consideration when calculating admission gpa

that's what i was thinking too, maybe he's in a really narrow field

Not to piggy back on the OP's dilemma but I have a similar question:

I'm a triple major in Physics, Applied Math, and a humanities degree. I've got about a 3.4 right now. I'm a sophomore and my grades are improving a little every semester. I'm also doing research in a physics lab with no papers published so far.
Do I have actually still have a shot at a top tier (or at least top 25) grad school with my GPA?

I'm a bio undergrad. I want to go to grad school for biological anthropology.
>>5701510
>>5701513

I'm sure your most recent semesters count for more but they judge by your whole gpa.

Explain to me your calculations because they seem off

>> No.5703394

>>5701517

Yes, if you publish a physics paper.

You have two years.

Also, most grad schools only look at the last two years of study. AKA, you have not started to accumulate the gpa they care about yet.

Your GPA is fine so long as your research is decent for undergrad research.

It wouldn't hurt at all--in fact I'm convinced it's the only reason some people get accepted place--to get involved in student organizations (not frats)

Related question from thread newcomer:

Chem/Applied math major. Current GPA is 2.8. I'm in my 7th semester. Counting the current semester, I have two left. If you only count the most recent 3 semesters, my GPA is 3.3, so I've been getting mostly Bs and B+s for the last 3 semesters (one C+, everything else higher than C+ in the last 3 semesters). I don't think I'll bring the total GPA above 3.0, but maybe above 2.9. I'm doing research with a professor and I may get a factory/industry internship this summer. The research probably won't lead to publication. I also go to one of those mid-high tier undergrad schools which isn't bad enough for the classes to be jokes and therefore easy to ace, but isn't high tier enough to have to keep its reputation good and therefore they inflate grades (what I mean is, my school's average GPA for my majors is lower than at other schools because they don't puff grades but still have relatively difficult classes)

Do I have any chance of getting into a non-shit tier chemistry MS program? I don't think I really want to do a PhD

>>5701442
Get your degree and lie about your GPA. Its surprisingly rare how often people actually check that stuff out.

>> No.5705684

Bio Anthro eh? where are you considering for gradschool

>> No.5705712

>>5704698
It's fine. I've heard of people getting 3-ish and getting into top tier chem programs. Just work on the research thing. Helps tremendously if your PI knows people, or is known.

Although science funding is pretty bad now, so it might not be fun in grad school.
