how many of you actually care about science and how many of you are just a bunch of rebbit dawkins/tyson circle jerkers?

I hate LE POP SCIENCE
I think that Neil LeGrasse Tyrone is overrated and the main reason that people like him is because he is black and intelligent and therefore deified.
I care about science. I study it at university and in my free time.

Tell me what 'caring' about science entails.

neither. i just wanted to make some apple pie.

I like science but fucking hate the academic environment you need to be a part of to do anything worthwhile. I'll just learn it in my free time.

I enjoy "pop science" for its entertainment value, but can appreciate some hard science because that shit can be equally interesting.

Degree in physics. Not only do I love science, but I can manage to do it and get paid.

>> No.5631202

I love and became interested through "MUH POP SCIENCE" and try to be more disciplined but I'm not smart enough and I don't care anymore I just read about things I find interesting. In the hope that one day I'll find happiness.

By that logic them I guess I care about science as well, and at the same time enjoy those pop sci references. Always nice to know what other things are going on and what everyone else is talking about. I'm particularly bad with science, being able to think about things and why they are, but not necessarily being able to deal with specific examples as well as I would like to

this. This SO much

>> No.5631213

I could care less about science. Too messy and imperfect.

I'm just here for the occasional math threads. CS is cool too.

>>5631024

don't really care for those pop scientists, but I generally feel sad when I know that most people don't even know Newton's laws for starters, or the laws of thermodynamics. You would think these were basic concepts that would be taught to everyone, maybe no one cares. /shrug

I hate pseudo intellectuals that have completely closed off minds, and sadly that tends to describe the scientific community.

You fucking cunts need to realize we are at the bottom of the food chain, and just that we cant do it, doesnt mean other, much more advanced races cant do it. I wouldnt be surprised if theres a new kind physics that we still have yet to dream of that could lead to new ways of traveling the universe.

The most interesting places in the universe to travel to would be planets like Earth, planets that have life. We would be a beacon in the universe for advanced space traveling races.

I would say more, but because you are all of bunch of ridiculing assholes that dont like the thought of aliens coming to earth, I wont for now.

My response.

I feel like most people here like the results of science, but not the methods. Results being just "space is neat" or "here's a newer computer". Not the "alright shape this optic to get this focal length, then coat it so that the reflectance at this particular wavelength is below 1%".

>>5631286
>alright shape this optic to get this focal length, then coat it so that the reflectance at this particular wavelength is below 1%

That's where the plebs in engineering come in so that us master race pure scientists don't have to do any of the cubicle work.

Does this somehow imply that louder is better? Because it isn't.

>> No.5631312

>>5631302
right. That shit I mentioned was easy. That was kind of the point, the science isn't that hard, people just don't want to do it.

i care more about philosophy and math.
really don't care about physics that much.
not a positivist.

but I do care a lot about philosphy and math as they relate to cognition and such, and I do spend at least 5-10 hours a day working on problems, researching, or reading.
