http://newrisingmedia.com/all/2013/1/4/scientists-reach-a-temperature-lower-than-absolute-zero.html

So if I do this to a bunch of hydrogen and oxygen atoms would they still be able to combine into water?
If so can I finally have my flying swimming pool?

Why would you catch on fire if the temperature if very cold?

would it really be physically hot?

Who says negative kelvin is cold?

anyone able to get the full text pdf so we might be able to repeat this ourselves?

Because higher temperatures are hot, and low temperatures are cold.
If -273K is very very cold, then somehow lowering the temperature even more would surely make it even colder, yes?

If I drink negative kelvin water would I super jump or fly?

>negative K

it's not what you think it is,
it's just a clever means of achieving population inversion

Space Zeppelin bouyant on gravity

>> No.5597328

>With this breakthrough has come some rather interesting side effects, leading to potential "new forms of matter." For example, while atoms are usually pulled downward by gravity, those below absolute zero float upwards instead.

So basically the foundation of hovercars?

Negative temperature is nothing new:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_temperature

What's different about this experiment is:
>Here, we prepared a negative temperature state for motional degrees of freedom.

>> No.5597399

>>5597389
"negative temperature" may refer to temperatures that are expressed as negative numbers on the more familiar Celsius or Fahrenheit scales, with values that are colder than the zero points of those scales but still warmer than absolute zero.

>warmer than absolute zero

this is below absolute zero .. they moved the boundary ..

Somehow I doubt you're going to be able to reproduce this in your basement lab, but here's the article if you want to read it. Resave the image as a 24-bit .bmp, and open in 7zip.
