If they're the same, then their difference should be 0. Look what happens when you subtract:

-0.99999......
=========
0.0000000.......1

I'm in europe, but my education system in my country is shitty and they focus heavily on people who are not so mathematically inclined since evrybody is considered equal regardless of if they are good at maths or not. American school system is actually good at some places, and they have the best universities in the world.
