so ive decided to teach myself AS level maths using the edexcel board im already stuck on simplifying surds.

square root of 200 + square root of 18 - square root of 72

also

3
------------------------- < (thats supposed to be a fraction line)
square root of 63

and
square root of 20 + 2(squareroot of 45) - square root of 80

I know the answers to all of these as their in the book but i dont know how to get there.

Which book are you using? If you use the official ones (pic related) they have the working out on a CD for all the questions.

Also, go here for video tutorials: http://www.examsolutions.co.uk/maths-revision/syllabuses/Edexcel/period-1/specification.php

get to learn all your square numbers, 2:4,3:9,4:16,5:25 etc, then multiples that use those square numbers ie 50=2*25, 27= 3*9
and now an example
SQR(50)
=SQR(2*25)
=SQR(2*5*5)
=5*SQR(2)

and as a hint for your question 63=9*7

Core 1?

I recommend using examsolutions.co.uk and Khan Academy. Also, if your having troubles already, you should go back and and strengthen yourself with GCSE Maths, otherwise A-Level maths isn't going to be as fluid.

Your fraction problem is the only one left unanswered, so I guess I'll chime in.

Multiply the top and bottom by the "conjugate surd". Google it. I'm going to bed.
