Why doesn't everyone on Earth quarentine themselves for a month and eliminate the common cold virus?

>> No.5529907

because how the hell would we do that?

the semantics behind such a thing would be too much, at least in our present time.

>> No.5529910

OP in charge with thinking things through to their full consequences.

>> No.5529959

It's the good old "Teach a mad to fish (and eat what he fishes)" vs "Eat the man".

>> No.5529979

>>5529977

i love how pratchett put a similar thought. paraphrasing "give a man fire, and you will keep him warm for a night. throw a man into fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life".

>>5529979
The difference is, that is a joke, not a philosophy.

>> No.5529984

>>5529981

of course it is a joke. still a valid variation on the typical fish & man thing.

I didn't know this one. I haven't read much Pratchett, even though I've got like 6 or 7 of his discworld books somewhere on my shelves.

If you don't like those things, nothing is stopping you from adopting the lifestyle we had before them. Just fucking move to the jungle and live in a hut. But you won't, because you don't actually mean any of that, you're just whinging.

The cold virus could live in other organisms in the mean time. It's not out of the question. Besides, colds aren't deadly like influenza.

>> No.5530217

I thought colds were God's way of reminding us once or twice a year that we are in fact human and are prone to illness. Without colds I don't think we'd truly be able to handle sickness of a significant degree when it happens.

We would also have to
1. sanitize every surface
2. eliminate all swine
3. eliminate all birds
