Who wants to help me understand chemistry?
I have a test tomorrow and one of the things that I still don't get is what "theoretical yield" and "actual yield" are. Could someone help me out? (Preferably with an explanation and example)

Theoretical yield is what you calculated _should_ be produced.

Actual yield is actually what you get out of it.

This. It's not a very hard concept.
2 H + 1/2 O2 --> H20
If you have 2 moles of H and 1/2 moles of O2 you should get 1 mole H2O, but you never will.

PS.

For example, CH3 + (1/2)O2 = CO2 + H2O

If I put one mole of methane in (24L), I should get one mole of CO2 produced (24L). 24L is the theoretical yield.

But I actually get 23.7L of CO2 produced - some being lost by various means along the way - this is the actual yield.

Works for any reaction.

you solve the dirac-equation, thats all there is to chemistry.
