One disturbing finding of the study was that the Solar System’s habitable zone lies between 0.99 AU (92 million mi, 148 million km) and 1.70 AU (158 million mi, 254 million km) from the Sun. Since the Earth orbits the Sun at an average distance of one AU, this puts us at the very edge of the habitable zone.

Depending on which model you use estimates for the Sol habitable zone range from about 0.7 to 3 AU

what would life be in the middle or at the other end of it?

even if we really are at the edge of the zone, no part of earth is without life.

The physical constants are exactly right for life
The moon was necessary in human evolution
The Earth is exactly in the habitable zone
Our planet happens to contain breathable air
The Earth's magnetic field shields us from harmful radiation
This chair happens to fit me exactly
>humans are very lucky

we only think those circumstances are good for life in general because they are good for us humans in particular. but a lot of creatures on earth don't care for them at all.
hydrothermal vents have a lot of life for example.

Earth's orbit is (slightly) elliptical. The minimum distance from the Sun to the Earth is ~0.983 AU. So we spend a fair part of our orbit in an uninhabitable zone?
Seems legit.

>> No.5503314

What's kind of bizarre about this is what humans are not lucky at all. We would not be dead if the earth was closer to the sun - we would never have been in the first place. Furthermore, the habitable zone is not really a thing. It is habitable for us, yes, but again, if we had sprung from Europa, our habitable zone would have been different.

You can't really say we're lucky to have all of this stuff when we are here in the first place because of the very same stuff.

>certain constants, astronomical positions, atmospheric conditions, etc. randomly set the stage for a particular strain of evolution resulting in a particular species of primates.

>this primate species thinks itself very lucky, so lucky it imagines a big skydaddy.

If the universe(s) came into being an infinite amount of times with an infinite different number of possible constants, etc. with an infinitesimally small chance at homo sapiens evolving to high intelligence exactly 100% of the cases where human beings existed to ponder life's mysteries ALL of the random physical constants etc would be PERFECT for their evolution.

No, the model is correct. If earth was 2% closer to the sun water would be boiling at the poles.
Scientists said so, don't bother them about it.

If we lived in the middle of the habitable zone it would actually be much colder, not warmer.

The calculation is based on worst case scenario catastrophic runaway CO2 induced global warming.

But the runaway CO2-apocalypse is false, so it's only fearmongering.

If it were true, the earth would've been outside the habitable zone numerous fucking times in its history.

>interplanetary distances

That is 30,000,000km.....
Quite a large distance considering how small the planet is....
