hey /sci/ I have a question but I should preface it by telling you that I am a lamen when it comes to science.

Will it be possible in the foreseeable future for a manned visit to another solar system?

From what I can compehend, it would take decades and there would probably be no feasible ship or crew that would be able to sustain themselves for the long trip.

Pic related, I don't think this will be possible in 2093

With the technology of today and the funds available to humanity we can reach alpha centauri in 4 years.
But people are mostly stupid and lazy so no, not achievable unless singularity happens.

We're trying to get that fusion reactor on the production line, we really are, man.

Specify? Nuclear saltwater rockets sure as shit aren't as "realistic" as ion propulsion when you're trying to achieve what the OP has in mind.

not until humans start mind uploading. even with nuclear drive taking living, aging humans for a few years trip in deep space along with life support is extremely unrealistic.

by th way, why everybody talk about manned missions? we can't actually colonize anything anyway.

so better option would be to station high power laser in earth orbit and start to send out thin net probes with microprocessor and bare minimum of survey equipment printed onto them. much more realistic too.

Why not go learn some real science instead of dwelling in this mind-numbing bullshit? Oh wait, based on your complete inability to form coherent sentences, you most likely can't. You're mentally defective.

It's unfathomable to me on anything short of a generational starship. And even then, the explorers' entire existence aboard the starship would be miserable.

Oh, I did have an idea though for possible interstellar navigation... would diving into the Sun's gravity well to take maximum advantage of the Oberth effect? Or would you not be able to get close enough for it to be any better than a Jupiter assist?

It is not a matter of if we CAN do it our not. We could do it from a technical perspective almost 50 years ago. We just have nowhere to go. Kind of a bitch to see other planets and all plus the whole endeavor would be quite expensive.

uploading your mind leads to one massive problem.
When you download, you are a different you. So the current you would not experience traveling to other worlds.
