Submitting homework assignments for pure math courses in properly typeset latex even though latex hasn't been mentioned at all by anybody. Good idea or bad idea?

>> No.5474951

It really doesn't matter, sure you make their marking job easy but if the answers wrong, it's wrong regardless of your beautiful layout.

If anyone on the class I'm TA'ing handed out something in tex, I would give them full marks while crying of happiness...

you'll look like a cunt

I wish my TA's could have those feels then.

Care to show us an example of your work?

there's nothing really to show? It just looks like latex.

Here's part of a proof

Well, it really depends on the average hw. In my case they're page after page of awful handwriting, in pen so they cross out stuff instead of erasing, and organized in an awful way.
As if that was not enough, it's a calc 1 class, so the way they prove things make me cringe.

This is what I'm worried about.

The real reason I want to do it this way is because my handwriting is terrible and I take forever to write. Though this would be cool too >>5474956

I'm also concerned that the TA will think I cheated or will just not like it for some reason.

>>5474961

I don't have any examples as I've never done anything in terms of homework in latex. Which is also something I'm curious about.

I use Maple to typeset HW. Faster and looks great.

I was just going to use Lyx. I learned it some years ago and find it easy to use. Quick google search seems to have pulled up a quick guide for another university.

Example on page 4.

>> No.5474981

Why wouldn't you? Sure it would look stupid in a calc 1 class, but if you're doing proofs and such there's no reason not to. Some grad classes specifically request that the homework is typeset.

>> No.5474985

I always used to typeset my more complex physics and engineering lab homeworks in latex. Never got a raised eyebrow.

You should just do it, and when you hand in your first homework, ask the TA if it's OK. They'll say "mmmuh whatever", which means it's OK.
