/sci/, what's the deal with CFL bulbs?

Some people say they're bad, with studies around about damage to skin or vision or whatever else. Others don't see any problem with them, only caring that they're much more energy efficient.

What do you of /sci/ have to say? Anyone done extensive research? I'm not very good at sorting the truth from the bullshit anymore, would love some of your input.

What is regular? I don't know shit about lightbulbs but I have a lot of lightbulbs I bought like, 5 years ago. Replaced a room of them with CFL's and after the initial warm-up, they seem as bright if not brighter and yet take up 1/3 of the wattage.
