Why does fractions exist?

Taking GRE in 2 weeks and just saw fractions in my practice exam.

Seriously?

>> No.5444415

Because division exists and fractions are occasionally a useful representation of that activity?

this is science and math

Get out.

eh, you're half right.

>> No.5444429

Protip: Numbers with decimals or whatever are also fractions unless the decimal is a nonrepeating infinite sequence

You cannot escape fractions

because you can express a lot of real numbers with a ratio.
Don't think of them as fractions, think of them as multiplication an division

Who got it?

Better question - why are you just now looking at what will be on your exam when it's two weeks out?

>> No.5444513

Fractions exist so that all the integers except zero can have a multiplicative inverse.

>> No.5444724

>>5444484
how did you go about finding that?

I noticed that his number was very close to a get.

I typed ">>" followed by the number of the get.

I posted it.

I followed the link I created, and found out who got the get.

Sage because unrelated. Please do not respond to this, unless you sage.

It's a practice exam moron, and besides who the fuck would give an exam without telling you what they expect you to know?

Why don't we pick a base thats infinitely small so it can't be divided into fractions

They give us a system of numbers under which division is a closed operation.

Sounds like you're just being irrational!
