Hey can you guys solve this math problem?

Write the equation of the line parallel to y=3x-7 that passes through the point (2,3)

>> No.5440795

>>5440780
parallel means the same slope, m=3/1

>> No.5440802

>>5440780

y = 3(x - 1)

>> No.5440803

man, come the fuck on.

Read the god damn text book. You don't have to read all of it, just skim it. It won't fucking kill you.

>>5440795
You are too nice.

>> No.5440808

First substitute:
3=3(2)-7
Move everything to one side
0=-4
This is your new slope
We know the y intercept is 2 so
y=-4x+2
If you have anyother homework, just post it in the thread and ill help you out :)

>> No.5440812

seems that most of the people in this thread have read the rules of the board as much as you've read your textbook OP.

You could fucking google this shit, christ.

I don't have a text book, we use shitty packets instead, but I missed the last week of school and the teacher isn't going to give me time to review any of the shit I missed

should have brought your homework when you went to hawaii then

thanks man

Write the equation of the line parallel to y-3=5/2(x-4) that passes through (-2,4)

>> No.5440837

>>5440808
is incorrect. Correct answer should be :
y = m(x-x1) + y1
y = 3(x-2)+3
y = 3x -6 +3
y = 3x -3

>> No.5440852

>>5440837
he is right
OP what you need to know
>parallel lines have have the same slope
>in y=3x-7, 3 is the slope
>use point slope formula to quickly find a line that intersects (2,3)
>point slope formula is y-y1=M(x-x1) or y=M(x-x1)+y1
>5440837 solves it using point slope formula

Thanks its actually better if someone tells me how to do the problem so then I will be able to do it on my own

>> No.5440875

>>5440873
wrong faggot. you needed to understand the slopes are the same.

>> No.5440876

fify

>> No.5440891

y-3=3(x-2)
y-3=3x-6
y=3x-3

Answer: y=3x-3

>> No.5440892

>>5440875

I understand that, what I just want to know is if there is an equation I can use to find out whether or not the two slopes intersect with each other, because as of now I am drawing out a graph each time and having to draw it all out when I know there is an equation I can use that would make this all easier

>> No.5440935

>>5440892
Not only do you suck at math but your writing is also shit. You are a massive faggot. The only way for lines not to intersect is having the same slope.
