It''s plausible. We can break matter down into planck units which could suggest a rather large machine running us like a program. It wouldn't even need to simulate the entire Universe; it would just simulate your current space and feed you data as necessary. A program suggests we serve a purpose. The question becomes what is our purpose? Or in other words "What is the Matrix?"
