Why do people always reject science
by saying that the money(and time) is better off feeding
the children and poor dudes?

They don't.

Because they don't know about space based solar power. One of the few ways aside from fusion to move up the kardashev scale

Because they are right? Seriously, I'm all for science and I recognize the need for continuous advancement. And I recognize the stupidity of the argument when NASA's budget is so insignificant compared to the rest of the budgets of the other government departments. But in the end some people care more for the possible decrease in suffering of the poor right now than in the implications that scientific research might have later on. After all, it's likely that the same people that are suffering now won't benefit from the advancements that NASA brings to the table two decades from now.

>solar power

>implying we have efficient enough solar cells for that to be feasible

We need scientific advancement so that we can sustain/improve peoples current situations.

tl;dr - Space based solar power isn't much more effective than ground based solar power... and it's a hojillion times more expensive.

Because those people are stupid, and focused on the short term. Science may provide great payoffs in the future, but little Curtis is hungry NOW.

Any fundamental research will eventually pay off infinitely. That's the very definition of it.

Helping poor dudes without jobs to keep having no jobs won't pay off. Ever.

They want quick action, they want results right NOW without thinking too much in the future. They are right to a degree, you know... Humanity has some real issues that need swift resolutions.

Like living space and additional food stuffs? Both can be solved by xboxhueg largely self sufficient space stations.
