See that comma in the above sentence? THAT'S a comma splice.

r/athiesm is like the atheist version of the Westboro Baptist Church.
They're all morons.

r/atheism is the main reason I don't recommend reddit to people not already familiar with the site (r/politics too, but at least they link to meaningful content). I just wish they would remove it from the default subs already.

i stopped recommending reddit to people two or three years ago when the main page was overrun by AOL rejects: "look at my dad he looks like bill clinton!!!" and other inane shit.

years ago, every day on reddit was filled with interesting or funny posts. now it is the biggest circle jerk ever. back when it was just link karma, you voted on the link. now they vote on links that look like they can farm a lot of comment karma from.

So fucking true. I have tried to start posting on reddit multiple times because I didn't want to believe it was as bad as everybody here said it was. Turns out it really fucking is. r/atheism is nothing more than a conglomerate of circle jerking kids and pseudo-intellectual fucks.

And this is coming from a strong atheist. (Strong disbelief in the religious gods anyway).

I hate comma splices, because I automatically internalize them as reading cues. I wrote an essay once and my jackass friend takes a fraction of a second to mark a false comma in it. Every goddamn time I read the essay out loud, I audibly paused at that moment regardless of the fact that it needed no pause.

>> No.5417000

>>5416997
A comma splice is not the same as a misplace comma.

>> No.5417005

>>5417000
Sure it is. A comma splice inappropriately joins two clauses together. Just because one, or both, of the clauses is not a sentence doesn't make it not a comma splice.

• "The energy produced by the atom is a very poor kind of thing. Anyone who expects a source of power from the transformation of these atoms is talking moonshine." —Ernst Rutherford

• "There is not the slightest indication that nuclear energy will ever be obtainable. It would mean the atom would have to be shattered at will." —Albert Einstein

• "There is no likelihood that man can ever tap the power of the atom. The glib supposition of utilizing atomic energy when our coal has run out is a completely unscientific Utopian dream, a childish bug-a-boo." —Robert Millikan

• "Radio has no future." —Lord Kelvin

• "The more important fundamental laws and facts of physical science have all been discovered, and these are now so firmly established that the possibility of their ever being supplanted in consequence of new discoveries is exceedingly remote.... Our future discoveries must be looked for in the sixth place of decimals." —Albert. A. Michelson, 1894

• "There is nothing new to be discovered in physics now. All that remains is more and more precise measurement." —Lord Kelvin, 1900
