Ask someone 500 years ago what they would think the year 2000 would be like. You think they'd predict cars, refrigeration, walking on the moon, nuclear weapons, internet, etc.? I think there's a quote from the 19th century, something alone the lines of "Everything that needs to be invented has already been invented".

Very interesting question. Despite my interest in human history - if I had to chance to time-travel, I'd simply go 5,000 years into the future, because it is more fascinating to see how bad we fucked up or if and how we managed to create a better world, what role technology plays - or whether we have reverted into a hunter/gatherer species....
