Does /sci/ think any of the following will be available within the next 10-30 years:
Genetic manipulation in Humans
brain transplants
commercialized space travel (doesn't have to be interstellar, just far enough away from Earth to be technique considered "space")
Artificial limps that look and feel like real ones
Robot Waifus

Is there anything else that i should looking forward to in next decade or so?
Thanks in advanced

We already have genetic manipulation in humans and if you consider Richard Branson flying people into space 'Commercial space travel' then we have that too.

we did it with monkeys and dogs, why not humans, but why humans if not for a full body transplant

>Genetic manipulation in Humans
Already being done and its only going to become more common and advanced in its application.
>brain transplants
It will probably happen near the end of your 30 year time scale.
>commercialized space travel
Most definitely within the next 15-20 years.
>Artificial limbs that look and feel like real ones.
I give that one about 15 years tops. We have the tech for that now it's just really expensive.
>Robot Waifus
Early versions will probably be out as early as the 2030's. By the 2040's they will be such a good substitute for the the real thing that some groups will be calling for laws to make them less "human".

So yeah the next three decades are going to be wild.

That is going to be hilarious. Chrome bots vs traditional flesh like humanoids, people who hook their minds up to their bot vs people who don't. Cyborg girls trying to pass as full bots and bots trying to pass as human girls. Crazy fun times lie ahead.

No. Correctly (and successfully) connecting the brain to the new body's nerves seems like a terribly troublesome operation.

Very nearly.

Yes, but they may still be in the uncanny valley stage.

I don't think we are ever going to be able to transplant brains. It sounds just impossible.

It's all about having sufficient technology to correcting connect all nerves in the brain stem with the spinal cord. It just requires really serious nanotechnology.

That's the goal and I think its something they can meet. People tend to underestimate the kind of advances that can be made in 1 decade let alone 2 or 3. The robots we have today are like the the old X-1 just breaking the sound barrier to show us whats possible.

I think inside of 30 years of where we are today we'll have social robots achieving the equivalent of landing on the moon in interaction with humans both personally and professionally using bodies that mimic ours to a fantastic degree.

>> No.5390498

The materials problem might be solved. Chat bots and the AI involved is really, really hard. You could have some sort of servant waifu, but it would be pretty obvious. That might be good enough though...

>colonizing the moon

Wouldn't it be far more productive to not do that? Like just cover the moon in nuclear power plants and use the space they would've taken up on the body with a breathable atmosphere for people?

I'm aware that short of Tesla being reborn the transport of electricity from the moon is pretty prohibitive, but I'd say a fair bit less so than an artificial atmosphere on the god damn moon.

I'm game for colonizing Mars though, provided they don't riot like all the fiction seems to think they're going to do and stay nice and subservient.

already exists in an incredibly crude form to treat blindness, will probably get more advanced with alzheimers becoming so common
>commercialized space travel (doesn't have to be interstellar, just far enough away from Earth to be technique considered "space")
Maybe, there's Branson's thing but other than that I doubt it.
>Artificial limps that look and feel like real ones
I doubt it, unless there's a major war in the future that results in lots of amputations I doubt anyone will bother advancing artificial limbs that much
>Robot Waifus
We already have them in an ultra crude form, out of all the things you listed this is probably the one most likely to approach a bladerunner level of sophistication within the next 30 years.

Colonization doesn't necessarily mean terraforming.

You could build domes, a worldhouse, or inhabit the natural, or man-made caves instead.

Still, a rebreather-survivable lunar atmosphere would require only a fraction of the volatiles in an average comet.
