Hi, /sci/.
I want to get into game design. I was thinking of doing a graduate programme in Computer Science. Do you think this is a good idea? I'm teaching myself HTML as practice, although I don't have experience with any actual programming languages.

Compsci graduate programs are mostly writing papers about pure logic, not so much programming like anybody does professionally. HTML isn't a programing language, try C,C++ or Java.

Well, the game industry isn't exactly a science. Maybe you should ask /g/. But everyone should know how to program.

Just start making your own games or do apps for phones. There's a shitload of people doing it and indie games are becoming popular. Don't try to use your degree to get a job at a big company, you'll probably need a portfolio to get into anything other than a mindless programming position.

CS grad school... and you only know HTML. I see no way this can fail.

Don't go for computer science unless you actually care about computer science.

Why don't you just do a... Game design major? Some unis in europe are specialized in it, and will get you a lot further with networking and specifics.

Sounds like a typical CS major. I bet you also struggle with babby's first calculus. Grow a neckbeard and you'll perfectly fit all stereotypes.
