If a person was born with the mutation for immortal cells, how would it affect their natural, physical lives? Would they actually be immortal in the sense that they wouldn't get "old"?

>> No.5330689

Wouldn't they turn into a giant tumour?
Whelp, people need to shed their cells sometimes

lets just say the telomerase doesnt degrade so all their cells my infinately and flawlessly replicate thereby unlocking hypothetical immortality

when one is immortal time has no meaning, so distance has no meaning. meaning if you get sick of everyone stay on 4chan until spaceships.

They would develop cancer. Even if you got what you wished for and they didn't die of cancer of the everything in a week, their DNA would deteriorate and they would effectively age into a puddle over a long period of time.

I love that movie. Fantastic actors and it's just so interesting. I had no idea what it was about when I started watching it, and it truly was an experience.

Clearly the DNA will get copied (perfectly) and won't decay.

No, see, degradation isn't caused by lack of telemerase, rather telemerase allows the body to compensate for degradation by having it remove cells likely to have been degraded.

>> No.5331234

They would eventually get cancer, and there'd be now way to stop it.

>> No.5331244

>>5330691
Yeah. We do that already. It's called "reproduction".

Also telomeres aside there are free radicals slowly poisoning your body and there's no vegetarian diet in the world that could prevent it from eventually killing you.
