We (humans) ARE the universe. We are made from bits of dead star.

If you take a bunch of matter and leave it to it's own devices, after 13.6 billion years it arranges itself in such a complex way it becomes self aware.

We are the universe becoming self aware. All this arose through nothing but gradual evolution and selective pressures

We may not even be the first time this has happened. Just the only ones we know of.
