Sorry to hear of your plight, OP.
I did extremely well in school, was in gifted & talented programs, and was bored with most of my classes. My mom pretty much abandoned me & my brothers, leaving us with our stepfather who beat the shit out of us everyday. Now that I'm out, I have trouble with flashbacks. PTSD has proven to be quite a formidable foe, and sometimes I find it hard to concentrate on my studies. Kind of ironic, since reading, science, and music were the only thing that kept me from killing myself.

My biggest regret in education was that I let two important subjects (Maths and Physics) be soiled by awful, awful teachers. The maths teacher was a shrill harpy of a woman who had no right being a teacher, her main method of trying to get you to learn was to scream at you without actually listening to what the student found difficult. With the physics teacher his main method of motivation was to tell you that you were shit and not to bother, he literally told me a couple of weeks before the exam in front of the entire class 'Don't study for the exam anon, you're going to fail anyway.' I got exceptionally lucky that I was able to get into university to do the course I wanted to do (CS, required a high Higher Maths mark when I never even sat the class, I did sit Higher Physics but I had the aforementioned teacher and failed the class.)

Perhaps I was too sensitive to these people, if possible I plan after finishing my final year of university to go and study higher maths and physics part time simply to prove to myself I am capable of it.

I was tested when I was a kid. Probably around 8. Scored high. Do scores tend to change a lot from childhood? Do they typically fluctuate up or down? Is there any pattern at all?

I have no intention of getting re-tested, knowing what my "number" is would not benefit me in any way, but I'm interested in the system.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but any memorable and decent mathematician was making MAJOR contributions to their fields before they were even 20-25. The myths that some geniuses were idiotic children is complete garbage. They were prodigies from the start and churning out new ideas in their teens. Hell, Galois barely made it to 20, yet abstract algebra as we know it might have not existed without him.

You can be a fine mathematician in the same way that a high school can be a fine football player. But don't think you're going to the NFL that easily.

IQ*sin(X/200π) where X is the combination of the environment, hard work, motivation and other factors that help you become better at math. The reason i choose this kind of formula is that some kids i know no matter how hard they work can't understand anything, while other that don't put half the effort succed, so hard work summing up, hard work only helps achieve your maximum potential.

school here in italy is one of the most depressing places you can find:
low paid bad teacher pretend to teach to a bunch of student who pretends to study and just aim at passing the year or even worst trying to get maximum vote by copying.

depressed, absolutely no reason to study, i see having successfull grades as bad because back when i was 10 kids bullied me because i had good grades, school encourages doing nothing all day.
