Whats the deal with so called "edetic" or "photographic" memory. I know there is a slight difference, with general edetic memory being broader in scope. Does anyone REALLY have this ability, or is it just a myth? Is there any good research on the topic?

If any of you at least think you have such an abilities, can you describe what it's like?

"Eidetic", the word is "eidetic".

Damn it, sorry.

People do have the ability, and photographic memory is just a nickname for it.

Have you never heard of wikipedia?

Their article is inconclusive.

Supposedly many people have this to varying degrees. The actual means to this hasn't been found yet. But numerous people have demonstrated this ability. Some stroke victims develop unique abilities like this, others develop synesthesia, and others have weird mental abilities. There are also exercises/tricks to memorize and recall large amounts of data (like Pi digits). Eidetics were commonly employed in the ancient times in place of writing systems.

Very real. Very weird ability.

Also, eidetic memory isn't just photographic memory. It's quite versatile. If I remember correctly, it's composed of visual, auditory, taste, smell, and touch memory. Quite odd indeed.

When I was a kid I remember laying in bed and playing music I liked in my head. It wasn't perfect, but it was almost like I could actually hear it. I still have it with taste. I thought everyone did with taste.

I get the same music thing sometimes after I wake up and lie in bed a bit longer. I am a musician so I can identify the chord patterns, instruments, effects, etc and being able to hear it so clearly while creating it on the fly is one of the most enjoyable experiences.

Can only do it right after I wake up tho..

Can you imagine if someone had this capable but with sexual stimuli?

Everyone has taste. The only thing is that some people are so good at remembering tastes that they can tell apart even the slightest difference in taste of a certain type of food.

I love replaying music in my head.

Am I the only one that's read the studies that suggest that eidetic memory doesn't exist? Anyone who's said to have photographic memory hasn't been able to scientifically verify that ability at all.

I mean, think about it. It'd be the most valuable skill ever. People with eidetic memory would clean up at game shows and shit. They'd be top-notch researchers.

OP here. That seemed to be what was indicated by some quick Google searching. I was kind of beginning to think it doesn't really exist myself. I was just curious about your opinions on it.

Getting a bit anal aren't you?

>> No.5277404

well, I'd say I have a good memory, but only for things that I find interesting / I really fully perceive, if my attention is in my thought and not in my surrounding I of course also can't preceive/remember things, sometime I read a quote only once and remember it forever, also I have very detailed memories of things that happend in my life and can remember mostly every converstation I ever had and I have a very pictorially imagination, but I definitly can't remember pictures and recall them in my head

postive side, I never did homeworks since 8th grade, still good grades.
negative side, I'm get bored really fast, also by other humans, and my attention is drawn towards scenarios created in my head and I tend run simulated conversations (based on their normal and expected behaviour) with people if they are not in range of a conversation
