Hey, I've got a question,
why does this exsit in plants (chlorophyll alpha), blood (beta heme group), and mitochondria (cytochrome complex)?

It is effective at what it is doing, and forms during natural processes.

That's all that is needed, because organic chemistry and evolution do not have goals or designs.

I get that,
really I want to know what the common ancestor is for everything with this in it.

There doesn't have to be anything in common;
it's a (fairly) easily-formed and useful compound.

Now, something much larger and more complex might suggest a connection, but I don't think this is all that complex.

DAT CHEMICAL, seriously, check the symmetry on that
