I'm getting this bit of math as a tattoo, any advice?

>> No.5175498

to not get that on you forever

>> No.5175499

you mean body-part-wise?

>> No.5175502

Don't.
If you're going to get a tattoo of maths or science do it with something actually important to you in some way, not some random formula from a class.
Wait until graduate school, get ink of something related to what you did research in, then you'll appreciate it that much more.

>> No.5175501

chest. but srsly don't do it

>> No.5175511

>>5175502
Probably yeah. It does seem like a rather rash action, but it's small and it's simplicity seems timeless.

>> No.5175522

Don't write something on you permanently. That is just stupid and immature.

Think about it like this:
Did Euler tattoo that on himself?
Did Poincare have any equation tattoos?
How about Lagrange or Hilbert?

No? Then you don't need a fucking math tattoo either.

>> No.5175524

>>5175511

It feels like the math equivalent of getting something like "Hope" or "Love" tattooed on you in Chinese. I would much rather tattoo something from my graduate work. That would actually be really nice.

>well it is small and hidden

Everyone says this about their tattoos. If the tattoo is so insignificant, why get it?

If you like the equation, get a t-shirt or bumper sticker or poster.

Or if you really want to honor the equation, go get a Ph.D and do some research and push the field of complex analysis even further.

>> No.5175531

LMAO do it

>> No.5175543

don't do this, this is the same as 1+1=2, 2+2=4,
a+a = 2a

>> No.5175557

>>5175511
It'll wear off, trust me.
When I was in freshman chem I thought the Gibbs free energy equation was the coolest thing ever, (in some ways I still do) and I almost got a tattoo of it. Looking back that would've been stupid and any of my peers who saw it would wonder why I got something so simplistic as a tattoo.
I'd get a tattoo of some polymer I synthesized, you should get something of a theorem you devise, trust me.

Your opinion of it isn't timeless though.

People who actually know or study math don't get shitty math tatoos.

People who read shitty pop-science books about math, and think it is so cool get math tatoos. These people usually sound like complete fucking morons to actual mathematicans. They have no actual knowledge of math, and most of the shit they learn in there shitty pop-sci books is beyond fucking shit.

By all means, please get a math tatoo. It will be like an instant repallant for anyone intellgent. It will let smart people know you are a complete dumbfuck.

Hey captain arrogance, OP already left because some people who have some experience talked him out of it.

By the way, shut the fuck up, math isn't a common pop-sci topic, by going off on your little autistic tangent, you show that you're a dumbfuck, and you act like some kid who thinks he's cool because he got a 90 in his babby AP calc course.

That is what I meant.

>I've only ever seen white swans
>Therefore, by inductive logic, there are only white swans
But this wasn't true, there are black swans which the person that made this statement has not seen. It is the fundamental problem with inductive logic. You must make allowance for the probability of a swan that isn't white existing, just like you must allow for the probability of a tattoo that looks good existing. It is perfectly coherent.

>> No.5175801

>>5175794
The real issue lies with your conclusion that all cakes taste bad, in your example. While it is logically valid, it is not true, therefore it's not sound.

>> No.5175804

Do you guys see anything in here that indicates this is a possibility and not a forgone conclusion?

>>5175794
It would only be the same if he said "i have only seen white swans, but there must be black swans as well"

Its the simple difference between accepting possibility and assuming there MUST be exceptions to your statement.

It's ok.
You can go for e^(i*θ)=cosθ + i sinθ <-- much better than the particular sample you have.

Back to OP

Tattoos are causes for regret, except in case where they are milestones. Sailors used to get tattoos based on accomplishements, such as crossing the equator or a tropic, getting promoted to first mate, Being 5,000 miles from home.

If your tattoo doesnt mark a major spot on your journey in a way that is easily identified as such, you will regret it when you change as a person. I personally have one that is a mile-marker for turning 18, and while i hate the design i picked, its a marker of the fact that adulthood doesn't mean you aren't a stupid child.
