In the exercises my lecturer handed out way back, he had a series of questions, just went back through and found one that has me stumped.

It's an optimization problem:
A piece of wire 10 metres long is cut in two (not necessarily equal!) pieces, and used
to make [a square] and [a rectangle with one side twice as long as the other]. Find the
minimum total area of the two shapes.

He has in the solution section:
"Side of square is 20/17. You can work out the rest."

So, I started with

<div class="math">a + b = 10</div>

The Perimeter of the square
<div class="math">4a</div>

The Perimeter of the rectangle
<div class="math">2b^2</div>

Total Perimeter
<div class="math">4a + 2b^2 = 10</div>

Cannot seem to get beyond this..

Fuck, typed the wrong thing..

Perimeter of rectangle
<span class="math">6b
Total Perimeter
<span class="math">4a + 6b = 10
