So I'm in my last year of Mechatronics Engineering and I was wondering;
What should I get my master's degree in?
What are some good areas of studies and research out there.
I'm interested in almost anything.

>Spintronics
>nanotechnology
>Artificial intelligence

to name a few. But I just can't decide. It needs to be something where I can make an impact on the world. Any advice?

Watch the movie I, Robot and it will become clear.

For further guidance, watch The Matrix and Terminator series.

For someone who did his master in spintronics and changed topic for the PhD, I would say spintronics are not really THAT hot right now.
It's not at a dead-end state, of course, but meh.

what is actually "hot" right now in your opinion?

There will always be new things for you to learn, your entire life.

I don't see the problem here.

Something more general. All of those fields are fairly new and could change a lot, so choose something more general.

I have a whole library of books that I would like to read; and it keeps growing.

You mean among the topics you listed?
Nanotechs, definitely.

Depends on how applied you want to go.
I know IBM is having some real interest in new lithography techniques.
