I was talking to a guy on the bus who's in SFU's comp-sci program, and he said that he doesn't need to take integral calculus. Isn't basic calculus pretty much required for any science?

I'm in SFU's engineering science program, and I know several people from comp sci.

They do need integral calculus. Don't know what your friend is smoking.

He's probably talking about the BA version which is basically graphic design.

maybe he meant multivariable calculus

The thing is, he's a smart guy, and we knows what integration is. He took AP calculus in highschool

Replace “Computer Science” with “Software Engineering” and you might be a little closer to the mark with that. You *do* know the difference, right?

>> No.5137882

you're thinking of computer engineering which needs math and does science.

Confusing "programmers" or "codemonkeys" for Computer Scientists. Don't even go there nignog. It's all physics and/or math theory and that's if you're smart enough not to be a computer engineer.

>He took AP calculus in highschool

He's probably just skipping it and taking something less basic.

SFU = simon fraser university?

You should take all sorts of math if you're doing comp sci.

hell they want Econ majors to take Real Analysis and Calc 3
