>The People's Republic of China has initiated a research and development project in thorium molten-salt reactor technology. It was formally announced at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) annual conference in January 2011. Its ultimate target is to investigate and develop a thorium based molten salt nuclear system in about 20 years. An expected intermediate outcome of the TMSR research program is to build a 2 MW molten salt cooled research reactor in 2015, and a 2 MW molten salt fueled research reactor in 2017. This would be followed by 10-100 MW demonstration reactors.

>Thorium Energy Generation Pty. Limited (TEG) is an Australian Research and Development company dedicated to the worldwide commercial development of LFTR reactors, as well as thorium accelerator-driven systems. In November 2011, TEG announced the formation of a joint venture with Czech Republic scientists intended to develop a 60MW pilot plant in Prague, with preparatory work on the prototype to be finalized in 2012.

>Founded in 2011, the Cambridge-based business is developing a 200 MW Waste-Annihilating Molten Salt Reactor (WAMSR) that converts high-level nuclear waste into electric power. Transatomic’s plan is to build a prototype reactor in 5 years, commercialize the technology in 15 years, and have reactors come online by around 2030.

ITS HAPPENING!! We did it /sci/!
