What is /sci/'s thoughts on them? Is subliminal messaging an effective form of mental programming or even brainwashing? I can not for the life of me find an UNBIASED study on the issue, so it has me thinking.

I suppose some people are more suggestible than others....I think what you can say is that it works on some people, and not on others.

>> No.5096269

It's probably not very effective, at least not in the sense of flashing words.

If anyone disagrees, don't bother unless you've got a study to link.

Marketing is extremely effective and subtle, and it doesn't rely on what you're talking about at all.

I'm not trying to convince you. Besides, the burden of proof isn't on me, it doesn't work until shown otherwise, just like anything else (because the vast majority of things you could try do not work).

I watched a QI episode where The Fryman said it was bullshit.
I know the show's not the most accurate, but still.

Can you be sure they don't use subliminal messages? Without heavy study of many different commercials you couldn't say for sure if they did, right?

And Russell's Teapot might be out there somewhere.

Come on, these commercials are not secrets, and it is not hard to find a flashed image. Don't give me your conspiracy bullshit, especially when it is so very easy to demonstrate that it's not happening.

Images are very powerful(without resorting to much thought/harm) form of subliminal mental programming

elitist consumer here, i generally only buy stuff that isn't advertised if it's a matter of preference
otherwise i read up consumer reviews

The ACTUAL techniques used in marketing are powerful in subverting our motives and choices, but you "subliminal message" guys are uninformed at best, and crackpot morons at worst.

>subliminal messaging

honestly less effective than regular advertisement, and conspiracy theorists would go nuts if they could actually find some in the real world.

But I suppose you could save a lot on commercial air time...

Subliminal imaging has no effect on people.
