What a joke, I can't believe I ever was worried about this nonsense.

Yes and meanwhile Antarctic ice is at a record high.

How do you explain this? i say it's because climate changes happen all the time. I say it's the natural state of Earth.

What are you trying to say?

I'm saying he's cherry picking his data. It's a really simple trick to start with your conclusion then deliberately select a small dataset that shows the trend you want. For example anti-vaxers will pick a month of really low polio fatalities sometime before the vaccine was introduced and a month of very high sometime after, then go Ah Ha! See this proves the vaccine increased polio deaths.

He's picking measurements carried out by one university at a specific time and place because this supports his conclusion that the Earth isn't warming. The vast majority of other scientific measurements show effects consistent with warming but he's ignoring them because they don't support his conclusion. Go to the UIUC climate website where he got the data and see for yourself. (pic related)

Forbes is a business news publication, so I don't know why you're expecting them to be producing quality science reporting. Regardless of where you read a story you've got to find the primary source of the story. In this case it's some random blog by a guy who thinks climate scientists are part of a massive conspiracy.

No, it was something you believed until you just looked it up, because you heard some other moron say it once and you don't question anything that supports what you already think.

That little "fact" can be traced back to Rush Limbaugh, actually, who simply makes up all the statistics he quotes. But they work their way out into the ether and then get passed around by unquestioning drones.

http://www.skepticalscience.com/antarctica-gaining-ice-intermediate.htm
>Globally from 1955 to 1995, oceans have been warming at 0.1°C per decade. In contrast, the Southern Ocean has been warming at 0.17°C per decade. Not only is the Southern Ocean warming, it is warming faster than the global trend.

>If the Southern Ocean is warming, why is Antarctic sea ice increasing? There are several contributing factors. One is the drop in ozone levels over Antarctica. The hole in the ozone layer above the South Pole has caused cooling in the stratosphere (Gillet 2003). This strengthens the cyclonic winds that circle the Antarctic continent (Thompson 2002). The wind pushes sea ice around, creating areas of open water known as polynyas. More polynyas lead to increased sea ice production (Turner 2009).

>Another contributor is changes in ocean circulation. The Southern Ocean consists of a layer of cold water near the surface and a layer of warmer water below. Water from the warmer layer rises up to the surface, melting sea ice. However, as air temperatures warm, the amount of rain and snowfall also increases. This freshens the surface waters, leading to a surface layer less dense than the saltier, warmer water below. The layers become more stratified and mix less. Less heat is transported upwards from the deeper, warmer layer. Hence less sea ice is melted (Zhang 2007).

OP, please kindly get this shit off /sci/ right goddamn now.

>>5075083
The IPCC put out a report on this. The antarctic isn't getting colder, that much is certain. The ice is spreading out and getting thinner because as it melts a lot in the winter there's more near-freezing fresh water spread around to freeze up again in the summer.

I see we have a categorical error here, not all ice is created equal. The gains and losses from sea ice are cyclical, gains and losses here are expected to happen. If you want a meaningful measure, you'll need to look at land ice, the ice that is not seasonal.

This is an elementary distinction.

how can they're be "land ice"? doesn't it all come from the ocean?
