It releases an Alpha Particle (-) in one direction and a Beta (+) particle the other.

One kilogram of Radium will release 2T Watts (Think 1.21 Jiggawats). The resulting magnetic field allows for a pathway for the Alpha (-) and Beta (+) particles to flow.
