Imagine a room, surrounded by a sold sphere. This sphere would have roughly the same dimensions and mass as the earth.
What would gravity be like in such a room?

like that of an unsold sphere

Who did they sell the sphere to?

why not a spherical room?

>> No.5026967 [DELETED]

not quite, OP didnt mention that the room is indestructible, like the OP's do who usually ask this question. so the hugely intense pressure would just crush the room completely.

>> No.5026972

Even though there's an unequal distribution of matter (due to the box-shape of the room) in all directions, I would still expect the person to float in the middle. The offset of equal distribution of mass by the shape of the room would be insignificant to the mass of the earth. So the difference in the magnitude of the vectors wouldn't matter to an observable degree.

Any other ideas?

only true if the walls of the room are somehow unbreakable, and the room isnt crushed.
but yeh, it'd be 0g, so you'd float.

>> No.5026988

>>5026979
nope. you are assuming the walls are made of the same density material. the more dense side will make a net gravitational force.

>> No.5026991

>>5026979
Clearly that is the case, because OP wasn't asking whether the person would be crushed. In questions regarding physics it is often suitable to consider impossible properties to gain insight about something unrelated to those properties. Durrr.

yeh fine, im being pedantic.

and yeh, we have this therad quite often, but usually phrased as
>hurr durr, what if you somehow magically drill to the centre of the aarth, and all the lava/magma magically disapears, and you are in a room made of diamond, the hardest metal known to man, so the room doesnt get crushed, does you float??

hopefully within a month the summerfags will leave..

at least there are intelligent discussions on this board.

well, sometimes.
we get our fair share of summerfaggotry and recurring trolls.

i reckon /b/ should be made a hidden board, so it doesnt appear on the 4chan main page, and only oldfags will know about it.
it'd keep it better quality i reckon.

I don't think /b/ ever recovers from summer. Each year, there's a flood of bored school kids on their holidays shit posting and making the board a undoubtedly uncomfortable place to be. They don't leave, /b/ is addictive at all ages. It's never going to stop declining. There is no "end of summer".
